Rabbi Idit Lev4.3.10
When I came to work on Tuesday morning, Ilana, our volunteer said to me with a big smile on her face, Idit, you saved…, a participant in the Wisconsin plan who did not receive her allowance and came to us on Monday morning. We called the social security office and they told us she is not entitled to this allowance and they have not yet decided whether she is entitled to a disability allowance.
The participant does not have money for rent, for food and medication, cannot go to visit her child in the boarding school and cannot have him at home on weekends.
We wrote a letter to the manager of Hadera social security office and told him about this situation and also asked the landlord to agree to postpone the rent payment. She received some financial help for everyday needs.
On Wednesday morning when I enter the office Ilana told me that on Tuesday the social security office called and asked the participant to come to the office and when she came Wednesday morning they gave her a down payment on the allowance she will be entitled to get, so she will be able to survive this month with the hope that next month she will start to receive her disability allowance.
Dealing with cases like this is not the main reason we are involved in this area of work, but we were able to help this women to make it through the month.
Shabat Shalom
