Human Rights in the Occupied Territories
Why Human Rights in the Occupied Territories?
Respecting Strangers Rights

The Jewish tradition demands that the "stranger" living among the Jewish community be granted equal access to a home and livelihood, and it insists on equality in civil law. While recognizing Israel's obligation to secure the safety of its citizens, RHR also insists upon respect for Palestinian rights.

RHR works to promote the upholding of Palestinian rights in a variety of areas, in east Jerusalem, the west bank and Gaza.

RHR works both legally and on the ground to stop settlers from preventing Palestinians from reaching their fields and taking over private Palestinian lands. It also tries to prevent demolitions of Palestinian homes by Israeli authorities, which had to be built illegally for lack of permits. In the legal field RHR conducts a continuous supervision of the legal authorities' actions, submit objections to planning/supervision committees as well as legal petitions to the high court. In the practical field RHR demonstrates against house demolitions, attempts to prevent them and rebuilds houses that have already been demolished. RHR also plants olive trees to replace those that have been purposefully uprooted, and assist Palestinians to carry out their agricultural work safely and minimize the violence during their work. The activity is coordinated with the IDF and security forces.
