In the coming days we will begin to prepare a building plan for the to Bir El Id village and we also intend to start the preparation of a detailed plan for the Bedouin village Dqueiqa
Following the legal team’s work, , permits to use their own agricultural lands, were given back to of the Abu Qbeita family, who live in the seam zone in South Hebron Hills
On Tuesday, April 27th RHR’s efforts enabled a sick person from the seam zone to be brought to a nearby hospital in Yata. It took 3 hours of telephone calls to arrange a permit for the ambulance to pass the machson the barrier.
Two months ago settlers illegally entered and took over the land of Moor family, that is east of the Susiya settlement. Despite the repeated requests to the police and to the Attorney General of the army in the occupied territories the trespassers were not evacuated. On the last two Shabbats the owner of the land went out with “Taayush” activists and planted trees. The trees were immediately uprooted by the settlers. On Monday, April 26th Adv. Quamar Misharqi the director of RHR’s Legal Department who was on a tour in the area, saw a settler working on the land. A representative of the OT General Attorney’s office and police forces who arrived at the scene, evacuated the settler.
The settlers are constantly using force to take over lands that do not belong to them.in the south hebron hills They also profit from Palestinian olives and grapes that they are harvesting from stolen lands.
Lately it seems that RHR and other Human Rights organizations have succeeded in changing the army’s awareness and understand that the army could not tolerate such actions. The army recently made it clear that takeover of lands by settlers or any other change is not acceptable. The army officer in charge can expel the trespasser and his belongings and return the land to its owner.
This clarification, together with actions that will show the military commander’s obligation to protect the Palestinians and their assets, as it is stated in the local and international law, might be the beginning of a larger change.
