BACKGROUND: Over the last few years, a Passover Seder has been held with African asylum seekers detained in the “open” detention facility of Holot, deep in the Negev. This year, RHR is proud to join “Right Now: Advocates for Asylum Seekers in Israel” in organizing the event. This year’s theme is “Let all who are hungry come and eat” – demanding an end to the policy of malnutrition at Holot and that the detainees be granted access to sufficient and appropriate nutrition.
Program (subject to change):
11:00 – Arrival at Holot. Potluck meal & discussion circles with sharing of “Coming out of Egypt” stories
12:30 – Intercultural Passover Seder Ceremony – With joint intercultural prayer and brief speeches by asylum seekers and Israelis
13:00 – Symbolic “Exodus from Egypt” – Marching around Holot with shofars, drums, tambourines, etc.
14:00 – Buses depart for Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
Participants are invited to bring food for a potluck meal. Also, if you have a shofar or a handheld drum, please bring it!
