A happy Bedouin girl.
The five camps organised by the coalition of organisations for the Jahalin (Vienta Deterra, the Combini sisters, Rabbis For Human Rights and the Jerusalem Bedouin Cooperative) have just finished, as Ramadan starts today. We played a crucial role in making it possible for two summer camps for school-age kids to function on the Jabel next to Azaria. We donated regular food for the kids, play equipment, and prepared the play area with tires, soil and trees to protect the kids from the wall there, as well as supplying sand, and of course enthusiastic young volunteers.
It is time to thank all those involved in contributing to correcting the educational neglect and disadvantage of this community in the Judean desert on the edge of metropolitan Jerusalem. In particular I would like to thank Jonathan and Hunter (my most devoted assistants in this wonderful project), Samantha and Gabrielle, as well as Roberto, Alicia and Aziza who contributed so much to help make it possible for Mariam and Ibtisan and their friends to add joy to the lives of the children there on the Jabel.
May you all be blessed for your good work for one of the most basic of human rights – the right to education.
